Typhoon HAGUPIT is heading for Hong Kong, 23rd September 2008

High winds and frequent showers are expected today and tomorrow (24-09-2008) as fast-moving Typhoon Hagupit enters Hong Kong Waters. The Hong Kong Observatory raised No.1 standby typhoon signal at 6.40pm yesterday.

Hagupit is expected to be closest to Hong Kong tonight or tomorrow morning.

The number 8 typhoon signal is hoisted at about 6.00pm today. This was the 4th Number 8 signal for the year.

Since the signal was hoisted late on the day, it had only little effect on today’s normal working of offices, shops, banks and other public services.

If the Number 8 signal continued to be hoisted tomorrow (24th Sept 2008), as usual there will be a public holiday. Offices and banks will resume working in few hours if the number 8 signal is lifted tomorrow during the office hours.
