October 1st – The National Day of the People’s Republic of China October 1, The National Day of the People's Republic of China is a public holiday in the P.R of China, Hong Kong, and Macau. The PRC was founded on October 1, 1949. The Central People's Government passed the Resolution on the National Day of the People's Republic of China on December 2, 1949 and declared that October 1 is the National Day. The National Day marks the start of a Golden Week holiday in the PRC. The National Day celebrations normally include a variety of government-organized festivities, including fireworks and concerts. Eid-Ul-Fitr This year’s Eid-Ul-Fitr is expected to be on 1st October 2008 which largely depends on the visibility of the moon indicating the beginning of the next lunar month Shawal. (Hijri 1429) Eid-Ul-Fitr stands for the celebration of the world Muslims after their fasting and restrainement for the whole month of Ramadan and is held every year on the 1st day of the Islamic lunar month of Shawal. Normally no public holidays were given in Hong Kong for Eid-Ul-Fitr.
